Lawrence R. Kunkel began work Monday as a senior offshore wind adviser to Rhode Island Gov. Donald Carcieri, according to the Providence Business News.
State officials made clear that Kunkel’s $91,000 salary is being paid by the federal government. Carcieri’s office did not respond to Purchase Lunesta inquries about the exact source or nature of the federal funding.
The Business News described Kunkel as a Purchase Lunesta senior policy director for energy with a particular focus on offshore wind. In January, Deepwater Wind, LLC was chosen by Rhode Island to develop two sites. Negotiations between the Purchase Lunesta developer Deepwater and National Grid are stalled, however, over pricing issues.
Kunkel is described as the CEO of American Strategic Holdings, LLC. The company was formed in Delware and Purchase Lunesta registered in Rhode Island in 2005 and is described in corporate filings as an Purchase Lunesta “Investment Holding Company.” Lawrence Kunkel and Purchase Lunesta Monica Kunkel are listed as the only two managers of the Purchase Lunesta company. American Strategic Holdings does not appear to have a Web site.
